African literature, whether known or unknown, is incredibly rich and diverse. It offers a profound reflection on the social and political realities of the continent, while promoting and preserving African cultures.
I discovered this Berlin-based reading enthusiast, who shares her portrait with us.
Dany: Tell me about yourself?
Acèle: My name is Acèle Nadale, I am originally from Cameroon and I have been living in Germany for about twenty years where I studied computer science. I worked as a consultant in management systems before embarking on the AFROLIVRESQUE adventure.
Dany: What are the main things to remember about this project?
Passionate about African literature and faced with the difficulty of finding rich and varied platforms to satisfy my passion, I decided to launch the magazine www.afrolivresque.com in 2015.
Afrolivresque aims to highlight all the facets of this rich literature, without falling into the clichés we are used to about Africa until now. Besides the purely literary content, we also try to provide information on African literary news and Afro-descendants in general, and also tips and advice to improve the production and dissemination of African literature.
The precise choice for this literature in particular comes from the simple observation that it is very often confined in prejudices and not sufficiently highlighted. It should also be noted that this cultural sector is almost entirely in the hands of the large Western press groups which unfortunately decide what could be published or not, and of course its success according to the means put into play for marketing.
It is high time for us Africans to tear ourselves away from this form of intellectual dominance, to re-appropriate our stories without complacency and to turn towards African youth who encounter great difficulties in accessing this source of knowledge in order to offer them an alternative with which they can identify.
Dany: Thank you Acèle for taking the time to give me this beautiful and very enriching portrait.
What we must remember, in short, is that Afrolivresque has been able to develop and diversify since 2015, becoming a reference for all those interested in African literature.
